I recently had a parent ask me why we don’t do confirmation names. I simply told them that it was a “small t” tradition of the Church. Something that is not required by the Church and isn’t part of the rite. This seemed to satisfy them but I found this article by Dennis Smolarski, SJ that goes into detail a little more.
